Contact was established in 1986 and we have continually evolved to meet the changing needs of people using our services. We are considered as unique in Northumberland and are recognised for the effective evidence based service we offer.
Contact offers support and social contact to those experiencing mental health issues, and their carers.
Social exclusion is a direct result of the stigma and discrimination experienced by people living with mental health needs. This leads to isolation and creates the inability to develop the broad range of skills needed to function in the wider community.
People are encouraged to access opportunities in the community with support from Contact staff and volunteers. This enables people to recover those aspects of ordinary life eroded by isolation, stigma and discrimination.
We aim to empower people with the confidence and self esteem to lead a life free from isolation and stigma by taking an active part in various activities, including:
